Weddington And Smith Win Mustang's Benefit With 25.6
March 20, 2010

Everyone's been waiting for bite to bust wide open, and it finally did on Badin Lake last Saturday. When anglers began to get into heavy action ten minutes after blast off, most knew something different was happening. For the Carolina Mustang's Benefit tournament, the timing was perfect.

A field of sixteen boats showed up at the Circle Drive Landing to participate in the second season of the fund raisers. This year, organizer Theo Hagerman decided to run a series of six events, all at either Badin or Tuckertown Reservoir, all held from March through May. The Carolina Mustangs 9 U and Carolina Crushers 12 U baseball teams are the benefactors of monies raised.

The kick-off event and three in April will all be on Badin. The group will gather next on April 3 and fish from safelight to 3 PM. Two final events in May will happen on Tuckertown. An eight-fish limit is used.

Ten of the boat teams weighed in fish and five of those had their limit. For Ronnie Smith and Randy Weddington, it was all about culling the big ones. The pair teamed up to drag 25.6 pounds out of the lake, taking advantage of an early morning bite and a return of good bite the last hour of the tournament. They won $375.

Second placers, Clifford Kirby and Mike Kelly follow a close second with 24.8 pounds to earn $220. Scott and Jason Threadgill missed a better place by a fin's weight with 24 pounds even, winning $100.

Nick Nance and Todd Walters netted the tourney hawg, boating a 6.7 pound bruiser. They earned $160 for their duel.

For more information, contact Theo Hagerman at 336-906-5675. A schedule of future events is also posted on the Fishbyte.Net Calendar and Forums.
