Sometimes getting your eyes down within two or three feet of the water's surface tells you everything you need to know when bass fishing. If you enjoy solitude and working over a series of promising holes rather than an entire lake, the Carolina Yakfish Tournament Series might be the best option around.

The group, formed just last year, consists of five events located in the Piedmont Region of North Carolina. Events begin in March and will culminate in November, with the final tournament and Angler of the Year presentation. There is a 100% payout and the goal is to promote camaraderie on the water, kayak bass fishing, and catch and release fishing. Drew Haerer is one of the organizers of the 2010 Carolina Yakfish Tournament Series.

“The tournament was formed when three avid anglers, all from central NC, organized the inaugural Carolina Yakfish Open in November 2009 on Jordan Lake,” stated Haerer. “The success of this first event spawned the 2010 Carolina Yakfish Series. This is the first tournament series of this kind that we are aware of in NC.”

The group has developed a website where they will be announcing results and will publish the leader board of standings throughout the year. The website can be viewed at www.carolinayakfish.com. The new club is also busy publicizing their events with Kayak Angler Magazine, Kayak Bass Fishing, Kayak Fishing Magazine, NCangler.com, and numerous others.

“To top it all off, we have received a promise from Inspire Pharmaceuticals to donate $5 to Heroes on the Water for every angler that enters each event,” noted Haerer. Heroes on the Water (www.heroesonthewater.org) is an organization that serves all military personnel who have been wounded, injured, or disabled while serving on active duty, in the reserves, or national guard through rehabilitation by taking them fishing and showing them a good time on the water.

The club is searching for publicity, donors, sponsors, or anything else that can propel them forward.
