Clark And Kerney Win Pick-Up Event On Badin
December 6, 2009

After some confusion about the actual start date of the D&B Wildcat Bass Tournament to begin December 13 on Badin Lake, three boat teams decided to take advantage of the Sunday before and tackle a few bass. Ricky Clark, organizer of the popular Adam & Eve Series on the Yadkin Chain, brought his scales in case a number of anglers showed up ready to fish a week early.

Fishbyte.Net ran an article posting the correct date just days before hoping to stave off boat teams showing up expecting the D&B event, and that may have set the record straight. A few fliers from the group had the start date as December 6.

The three teams blasted off at the same time the D&B will next weekend, 11 AM from the Circle Drive Access. The group fished until 4 PM. Teams of Michael Bryant and Nick Mann, Clark and Jimmy Kerney, and Marty Williams and Tom Sargent began their efforts in 36 degrees air temps under partly sunny skies. Breezes out of the northwest were on again, off again all day. By weigh in time, temperatures had risen to about 47 degrees.

All three boats struggled to find much for fish over fourteen inches. “It was plenty tough out there today,” stated Williams. “The wind and sun just couldn't decide what they wanted to do all day long.” None of the boats saw any schooling action throughout the day.

At weigh in, it was clear who would take home the $90 thrown into a pot by the three teams. Clark and Kerney had two keepers (and two stripers) to win the pick up event.

The D&B will begin its Sunday events on Sunday, December 13 from the Circle Drive Access at 11 AM. For more information, contact David Myers at 336-301-0182 or Bobby Conner at 336-596-6094. Information is available (and watch for updates) on the Fishbyte.net Calendar and Forums.

D&B Sunday Wildcats Open On Badin
December 13, 2009

Some would call it an awful day for being outside, while others would call it a perfect day for fishing. Last Sunday's rain and cold kept numbers down for the first Sunday Wildcat Open on Badin Lake, but organizers are hopeful next week's event will see better numbers.

Three boat teams showed up for the Circle Drive Landing blast off at 11 AM. Organizers David Myers and Bobby Conner put together the activity hoping there might be a few anglers in the region who might enjoy a laid-back competition in what many consider the “off season”.

“For us, this is the best time of the year to fish,” stated Myers. “The lake is quiet and there's plenty of bite. Heck, you can even catch a few great stripers out there right now.” Myers mentioned that, during the Sunday competition, he and his boat partner caught two stripers over ten pounds. “It just adds to the action and there's plenty of fight in them,” he laughed.

Besides those fish, Myers and Conner caught their limit of five fish during the competition. Their 12.7 pounds was enough to grab the winner take all prize pot. Their largest bass was a 4.5 pounder.

The D&B Wildcats will return to Badin's Circle Drive this Sunday, December 20th for another 11 AM – 4 PM event. Cost is just $30, which includes $5 towards Big Fish. For more information, contact Meyers at 336- 301-0182 or Conner at 336-596-6094.

Four Boat Teams Turn Out For 2nd D&B Wildcat Event
December 20, 2009

It may have been 40 degrees and just five days until Christmas, but four angling teams decided it was a day to be spent on the waters of Badin Lake this past Sunday, December 20. A light breeze out of the northwest scurried across the waters as sunshine warmed anglers clad in winter gear at the 11 AM blast off.

Dave Myers and Bobby Connor, organizers of the wildcat series, began the effort just the weekend before hoping local bass fishermen would appreciate a five hour, Sunday competition each week through winter months. Both call Badin their home lake and work schedules during the summer make it difficult for them to participate in clubs on a regular basis. The group uses the Circle Drive Access Ramp on the north end of the lake.

The open competition allows either one or two anglers per team and is open to anyone wishing to attend. No club dues or fees are involved. The fishing ends at 4 PM and uses a five fish limit. Cost is just $30 which includes Big Fish.

On a day that small bite was aplenty, Ricky Clark and Jimmy Kerney took first place using crankbaits. “We caught a bunch of small ones all day and lost two good keepers in the last thirty minutes,” stated Clark. The two fish they brought to the scales weighed 4.20 pounds, enough to win the event and take home $70 in cash.

Second place and Big Fish belonged to Rusty Bowers and Bo Russell. The pair brought in only one keeper, a 2.10 pounder that took the Big Fish part of the competition. They solo was worth $20 by itself and added $30 for a second place finish.

D&B will take the next two weekends off as most anglers will be enjoying the Holidays. The series will resume January 10th at the Circle Drive Access Ramp.
For more information about the competition, contact David Myers at 336- 301-0182 or Bobby Connor at 336-596-6094.
