Burleson Scores Win At McCoy's Wildcat Friday
May 22, 2009

Once in awhile, you just feel like fishing... nothing complicated, nothing expensive, but you want to do it with a bunch of guys you fish with often. Bill McCoy decided a couple months ago to put on a small competition at Lake Tillery and do it on a Friday. They all had so much fun the first time, he made May 22nd the second such event. With a bright red sunrise to their backs, 15 boats blasted off from Swift Island at safelight.

Randy Burleson of Norwood managed to find the biggest average in the five-fish competition. His 12 pounds 5 ounces bested second place finisher, Buzz Dunlap of Mt. Gilead, by only 4 ounces. Dunlap boated 12 pounds 1 ounce in the competition that ended at 2 PM.

Big Fish winner's circle belonged to Dave Turner or Oakboro who netted a 4 pound 14.8 ounce prize.

The single angler event is a 100% payback as it is un-affiliated. For more information, contact Bill McCoy at 704-650-2413.

ClamMcCoy Wins Biggest.... Clam?

Tournaments pay out various places, Big Fish, and sometimes Second Big Fish. For Bill McCoy, the organizer of a recent Wildcat Friday on Tillery, a new payout category may need to be added. McCoy was throwing this riggin' on the lake near some rocks May 22nd, and it turns out more than just bass were hungry. McCoy wrestled it to the boat all by himself and brought it to weigh in. Competitors agreed that, although it was a bit unusual, it wouldn't be a paycheck event that day.
