Lawson And Lawrence Win Winston-Salem Club Event
July 25, 2009

As waters began to pour into Tuckertown again this past Saturday about late-morning, fish in the pond began to come alive again. The faucets have turned on and off with no regularity recently and fishing tournaments can only hope their times on the water matches an open spigot. For the Weekend Warriors Division of  Winston-Salem, their event was about half right.

Thirteen boats pulled away from the Flat Creek Landing at about 6 AM, roughly four-and-a-half hours prior to water movement. Then, at about 10:30 AM, the alarm bells at both ends of the lake began squalling. According to bass anglers in the club, that's when the action began to heat up just a bit. So, too, did the day, reaching 92 degrees shortly after they finished. Weights and numbers of fish brought to the scales reflected a tough day, with members agreeing that an earlier water flow would have turned the results upside down. Still, they did see some bite late in the tournament.

Rick Lawrence and Jerry Lawson managed to find the heaviest sack, netting 10.2.3 pounds of keepers in the team tournament. Lawson also caught Big Fish honors with a 4.6.5 pounder.

Second place went to Joey Kossek and Allen McKinney. The team hauled 9.4.7 pounds to the scales. Charles Ray and Wayne Johnson were just over an ounce away from second, but had to be satisfied with a third place showing. Their 9.3.4 pounds was enough to place in the top three on the day.

The club will move on to Badin Lake and the Lakemont Access on August 15th. They will fish from 6 AM to 2 PM. For more information about the group, call president John Shaeffer at 336-595-4347.
