Yadkin Wildcat Series Finds Tuckertown Magic
July 31, 2009
By Les Tolley

There's another fishing game in town and that option put Tuckertown in its sights last Friday. The Yadkin Wildcat Series, a new Friday evening open competition, took its best efforts to the lake and the winners dragged over fifteen pounds from the waters.

On a very windy and rainy July 31st, Les Tolley’s rapidly growing Wildcat Series turned in some great weights in five hours time. “It’s a lot of fun watching this grow and meeting some great people and tough fishermen,” stated Tolley. “Anybody can fish with us. They just need to contact me to sign-up.”

Eddie Lackey and Mark Bayse won first place honors with five fish weighing 15.25 pounds. They also won Big Fish with a nice 4.9 pounder. Organizer Les Tolley and son, Derek Tolley, missed top honors by just over a quarter of a pound, walking in  a bag weighing 14.75 pounds.

The Series, begun by Tolley just over a month ago, has been gaining in boat numbers as anglers find the group and discover that an end-of-the-week outing works well for them. The group meets once a month on either Tuckertown or High Rock Lakes and uses a five-fish limit. Cost is only $20, which includes Big Fish.

The next Wildcat Series event is August 28th at High Rock Lake at 4 PM. The Series will use the Tamarac Marina. Contact Les Tolley at 704-773-1970 or e-mail him at tolley@ctc.net.

Wildcat Open Competition Returns to High Rock
August 28, 2009

Hoping to beat the summer bass doldrums on High Rock Lake, the Yadkin Wildcats blasted off from the Tamarac Access last Friday. Sister lakes to the south on the chain have not been producing much for anglers other than an occasional good bag at Tuckertown. Six boat teams hoped to show that this lake could still give up some prizes to anglers who knew the right holes.

The Yadkin Wildcats, begun just a few weeks ago by Less Tolley, fishes both High Rock and Tuckertown and is an open competition. Group members decide dates and times at the end of each weigh in. Generally, the anglers set 4 PM as take off and 8 PM as scale time. However, with seasonal light becoming shorter and shorter, they adjust as each month passes.

Anglers hit the waters under threatening skies and, by 6 PM, rain and lightning crawled its way over the south and east sides of the lake. The first shower had members climbing into rain gear, but the storm passed and the group got in the rest of the event without another run-in with storms. At weigh in, lightning could be seen south of the lake and rolling in fast.

Andrew Motley and Dillon Mason had the best bass battles that evening, hauling in two fish with a combined weight of 4 pounds 13 ounces. Their first place finish earned them $90. Cost to join in is just $20, which includes a Big Fish pot. With just six boat teams, only first place and the Big Fish were paid out.

Solo lunker honors went to Roger McIntyre and boat-mate, Ben Motley. McIntyre battled a 3 pound 4 ounce catch into his livewell to win the Big Fish crown. He earned $30 for that effort. The group uses a five fish limit.

Vote for the next gathering went to Tuckertown and the Flat Creek Access on Friday, September 25th. All agreed to begin a bit earlier at 3 PM and finish at 7:30 PM. The competition is open to anyone who wishes to join in. For more information, contact Les Tolley at 704-773-1970 or email him at tolley@ctc.net.
